Individually Katelyn and Megan's teachers (different ladies) entered some of the girl's writing in a local contest of sorts and they were both chosen to have their writing take part in the
2013 Young Writer's Celebration, sponsored by the Placer Area Reading Council.
They were to invite two guests (Tyler and I were so glad it was us!) to accompany them for an afternoon celebration with light refreshments, awards, a talk by a local author Jeri Chase Ferris and a chance to share their writing with other winning authors from our county. We had a great time!!

They were called on stage and presented certificates and medals!
WOW, were they excited about those medals.
The certificates were pretty great too, they have gold seals.
Our invitation said they could bring their "exceptional piece of writing" to share.
It was pretty quiet when sharing time came and no one wanted to go first.
But then Katelyn, bravely raised her hand and volunteered to go first. We were so proud of her.
She read her piece, which was a narrative about her spring break adventures.
Megan also wrote a narrative about spring break.
Afterwards, they got to meet the author who had spoke earlier and she autographed two of her books.
They enjoyed hearing about her travels researching her books, hearing how much work it takes to get a book published and seeing some of her edited drafts too.
Afterwards, Tyler and I took the girls to dinner. It was a special double-date treat!

Way to go Katelyn & Megan. What a great gift to be able to write well. I can't wait to hear what you wrote. Keep up the good work! Love to all!
