Every month we schedule in a Family Fun Day.
We have to really because otherwise our Saturday's fill up with basketball, play practice, birthday parties, and our (seemingly-endless list of) house projects. This month the consensus was a hike and a trip to use Uncle Brian's Christmas gift, Jamba Juice gift cards! What a treat!
It was a beautiful January day and we headed to one of our favorites, Hidden Falls. It had been a few years since we'd been there and the kids were all old enough to walk the entire the 2.8 miles!
Yahoo, we've reached that point!
We had a great time having our snacks and throwing rocks at the bottom.
I love it when we are together, the kids seem to enjoy each other and being away from the regular distractions too!
The hike back was a gradual uphill. Matthew was struggling. At one point he insisted he stop and lay down on these rocks because he was "sooooo tired". Somehow he manages to get that much dirt on covering every inch of him, all while walking!
We talked him up the entire rest of the way, telling him how big he is and how he COULD do it. We sang songs and distracted him, we held his hand and encouraged him. After ALL of that, when we reached the car he was SO proud of himself that he declared, "I did it and it was SO easy"!!

Love the idea of month family day! Crazy that Matthew is old enough already to "do it himself".
