Eight year old boy HEAVEN!

Tonight was my first experience with Cub Scout Twilight Camp.
I totally scored and got to hang out with Andrew the entire night as a "walk around".   I love it when I get one on one time with my kids.  Sometimes I get caught up (especially in the summer) with all five.  All five today at swim, all five today at Costco, all five at home.  Spending alone time with them is such a treat and reminds me of how awesome they are individually!!
Andrew has been looking forward to this night all week.  We had rockets, archery, and the obstacle course in our line-up.  The boys made their rockets out of paper, masking tape, rocks, and duct tape.
This is the face of "Mom, did you see that?  This is SO cool!"
These things FLEW!!!
I am not a good judge on distance, but notice how far Andrew's head is tipped back!!
Archery was next and a little harder than it looked for these guys.
Those arrows were flying every which way!!  However, Andrew got the hang of it and ended up hitting his target for five points.  He really enjoyed that!
Their last station for the night was a timed obstacle course.  They had to tell a joke or spin three times before running the course.  Andrew loves a good joke and of course had a "knock-knock" one to share.  After every boy had done the course they did a team building activity on these pipes and board.  The boys were supposed to work together to push themselves.  When they got the hang of it, they got going so fast the adults couldn't get the pipes in front of them quick enough.  They had so much fun!!
There were three flags that needed to be retired and I am so glad that we were there for this special ceremony. The reading that was done during the burning of the flags was absolutely beautiful.  Even with all those boys it was completely silent.  It seemed that everyone was intently listening and enjoyed watching the beauty of the flags in the bright flames and hearing the touching tribute to "Old Glory".
The best part of the night was being with Andrew and experiencing these things together.
I loved watching his face light up as his rocket headed up in the sky or his "boat" moved faster than the adults could handle!  Most of all I loved it when we were walking to the car and he grabbed my hand, looked up at me with his darling smile and said, "So Mom, what did you think of your first Cub Camp"?

  1. This message actually did make sense when I sent it. I don't know what happened. So I will try again....
So, Mom what did you think of your first Cub Camp? Oh, how that brings back the memories of the many year I escorted 7-8 boys to their day camps. So much fun was had by all, even "the old ladies" who had to tag along. Even though "together is a great place to be", there is nothing quite like the times spent one on one with your children. How lucky you are Andrew, to have a mother who cares so much for you, your well being and your happiness. And loves being with you. treasure those moments for they are gone much too soon. Thanks for sharing your day camp with us. Those were the days! Love to all!
