Colonial Faire

Our school has had an awesome Colonial Faire the past few years.  This year they had a hard time finding someone to chair it.  I had signed up to help, but like a lot of others didn't want to take on the "in-charge" role.  However, when it got to the point where this fun day wasn't going to happen without a chairperson, I volunteered.  Thank goodness another mom (with limited time also) volunteered and together, co-chairing we had a great time.  It is an all day event that we happen to have at some property our church owns, Penryn Park.  It's a perfect setting for the fun day full of activities.  All eighty third graders came in costume, as well as most of the thirty adult volunteers, how fun is that?!
In the morning the kids had school and learning time, complete with colonial writing, a mock school,
quilting, and apothecary stations they rotated through.  There were even live leeches!  Afterwards there was music and dance and a picnic lunch.  In the afternoon they rotated through eight Colonial game and craft stations.
They included: basket weaving, marbles, candle dipping, pomander balls, dried fruit stands, seed spitting, cat's cradle, and tin lanterns.
The kids had a great time and I did too!
