Just what we needed...

after the holidays, a day of fun to finish up a wonderful 2010!!
Early Thursday morning we decided to take off for the day to San Francisco.  How great is it that we live so close to such a fun place?!  Besides a few annoying things about California, there are SO many reasons I love living here!
This pic is from the car driving in over the Bay Bridge.  The kids loved the tall buildings and bridges and I couldn't contain my excitement at being there (in December especially) on such a beautiful, sunny day!!
Our first stop was the wharf.  Since we've last been there, Boudins has opened a HUGE bakery, coffee shop, restaurant, and store.  We love Boudins and look how fun the new place is.  Note the bread baskets floating overhead, these take the yummiest sour-dough loaves and other creative creations (turtles, crabs, seahorses, etc) straight from the bakery to the bread shop and restaurant.

There's nothing like soup in a sour-dough bread bowl.
Next we enjoyed a leisure stroll down Pier 39.
I love days like these, no schedule, no rush...
Such a beautiful place...
Of course we always have to drive down Lombard Street, what a view!
Next we walked around the Palace of Fine Arts.  WOW!  Isn't it gorgeous?  We're definitely planning a trip back there to go inside the Exploratorium too!
The kids were super excited to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.  It was beautiful, but pretty windy at this point in the day and in the bay.  There were surfers beneath us in their wet-suits and Santa hats, lots of bikers (that's how we're doing it this spring, want to join us?), and lots of tourists!

A fantastic day!
