Father's Day 2010

Hi, although this is the family blog, normally Rachelle is the poster, but today it's my turn.

I have to be one of the luckiest dads! First, I have a wife who makes each and every holiday a huge deal, and second, kids who also follow in the mother's footsteps and enjoy making the most of a holiday. Father's Day seems to get better each year probably because my kids are getting older and more of them are participating in the "festivities".

It all started with breakfast in bed, but inevitably made its way to the kitchen table (something about syrup, orange juice, kids, beds, and five kids don't seem to compliment each other very well), so the breakfast in bed lasts about as long as it takes for the transfer of the goods from child to dad.
After church, the kids had set up a "Pamper Daddy Day" which was clearly in the works well before I got home. When I opened the front door I was told to leave, and disrespectfully, someone proceeded to lock me out of my own house - for some reason, someone didn't think I was trustworthy.
After a short time sitting and pondering on the front porch, I was invited into my home where I was treated with a full service relaxation menu complete with lemonade, the newspaper, an ottoman to lay my feet, and a chair to lean back in. It kind of felt like I was in a movie with all these people working on me in tandum to make me look handsome in 15 seconds flat. Katelyn globbed a handful of gel put in my hair (like that was going to help anything), Aubrey had drawn up a hand written menu with the afternoon's offering consisting of dried mangos or rice crackers, water or lemonade and proceeded to serve me my order. Megan rubbed my shoulders, and Andrew had rolled up my pant legs and the next thing I know my legs are getting rubbed down with lotion.
Rachelle made me a really great dad book with a lot of the fun pictures she has taken of our family over the last year. I'm so lucky I have a talented wife who enjoys using her talents to make memorable things. I also got a great Eddie Bauer backpack that is a cooler that we can use when we go on family  hikes, swim meets, parties, etc. It will be a lot of fun to put it to use.
Today was a great day thanks to my kids and wife! I love you guys.
