Hello readers!
This is Katelyn and today I'm excited for you to read my blog post today about
OPERATION BACKPACK!
Operation backpack was so fun!! It made my day to know each backpack I did was helping a student. And we helped so many students, one backpack at a time!
Every year, thousands of students return to school without the proper, basic, and necessary supplies they need. This organization invited anyone to come and fill donated backpacks with the supplies kinder gardeners to high schoolers need. My family was so excited to find a service activity that all of us could participate in! We decided this was so cool and a great service opportunity, so we went! When we got there and went inside it was so cool to see how many backpacks and supplies people had donated! There were so many backpacks, I could probably count for a day and not be done counting! It was amazing!
After being told what to do, we grabbed a couple backpacks and went to our table.
One at a time we opened the backpack and looked for a paper that said the donator's address and email address (for thank you's), and a checklist of the supplies needed, then looked for the supplies already in the backpack. A few of the backpacks had something extra in it, such as candy or a note. It was so cool to see how generous people are. Most (or all) of the supplies were already in there. But if they weren't, then we would go to where the supplies were and get the ones that weren't already in the backpack.
After we got all the supplies we put a yellow wristband for elementary, a red one for middle school, or a blue one for high school, on the backpack handle. After that we put the backpack in a room; elementary, middle school, or high school. Elementary was the most full, then middle school, and lastly but sadly the high school room didn't have a lot of backpacks in it.
The backpacks were almost packed to the ceiling.
Once we were done we were so glad we did it! It was super fun and super cool to make little kids be excited about their first day of school!
Holy cow! That's a lot of backpacks! Isn't serving the best boast ever. I love that your mom always finds a good service project for you to experience that wonderful feeling of serving others. So proud of all of you! Love to all!
