My Fall (A personal narrative, written by Katelyn)

As I hopped out of my family’s white minivan, my heart was filled with amazement as I saw the growing, greenness of the soothing scenery I was looking at. My family, friends, and I headed down to this “amazing” cave, but I had my doubts. In the past, I had never had a strong liking for caves, for each time my parents said, “You’re going to love this one,” or “Trust me, this one will be worth it,” each time I was disappointed. But as I stared at the truly spectacular scenery, I had a warm feeling that I would enjoy this one. I muttered,”This is the one,” for that feeling told me that this one would not be disappointing, but actually worth it.

First of all, I was stunned. Once we finally got moving, the hike down to the cave was quite enjoyable because of these epic reasons. First, the hike was gorgeous. Everything was green, except for a couple things, the flowers. There were a ton of our state poppies, one of my favorite kinds of  flowers, and small yellow and purple flowers. Second, I got to talk with my best friend, Caidance, (my favorite part) whose family tagged along to play at the cave with us. Lastly, the hike was all downhill. Yaaaaayyyy!! The hike was really fast, probably because we were talking the whole time about our awesome time earlier during spring break. In no time we were all the way down and could see the cave.

My first thought: I seriously thought the hike was cool? This was way more awesome!! I loved that the cave was gigantic and partially filled with water. I did know there would be a river, but I didn’t know that the water in the river came from the water in the cave, which came from a small waterfall, which came from a small pool of water, which came from a tiny waterfall, which came from...well, I don’t know where. But anyway, it was super awesome. Once we had permission, all the kids, including our friends, pulled off their shoes, except for my big sister Aubrey and our friend’s little baby, who were happy to play together.

The kids walked excitedly towards the cave. One at a time, we all ventured into the water. Once it was my turn, I slowly lowered myself into the water, which just a couple inches below my knee and denim shorts. I walked slowly, for the rocks beneath my feet were very small and hurtful. I was heading towards a big rock near the front of the opening of the cave. As I set my foot down to rest on the rock, the heel of my foot slid against the slimy, wet green moss and extremely slippery rock. It caused me to slide all the way off the rock and sent me flying into the shallow water.

My shorts were very uncomfortably soaked up to my waist. As I hurried back to the path, I looked at my knee and realized that my knee got scraped on the sharp rock when I fell. When I slid my knee off the rock, it got scraped on the edge, revealing a long deep cut. I ran to my dad who comforted me and my coldness, and helped me wash my throbbing knee off. Fortunately for me, the sun was out and my clothes dried quicker than I expected and I ended up having a great time.

In conclusion, my time was amazing. I truly loved the greenness of the world around me and the calming water went so well with it. I also loved spending time with my friend. But in the end, I learned a couple of things: First,  always look where you step because even though it didn’t happen to me, you could get seriously injured. Second, just because you feel miserable, don’t put it out on others, because they may be happy, and you could ruin their day. Third, if you are miserable, don’t let it ruin your day, because there is nothing you can do about it. Also, there are hundreds of fun things you could be doing while you’re sitting alone pouting, so don’t sit by yourself being mad when you could be doing something so awesome. You don’t want to spend your life trying to be mad about something and being left out when you could be having the best day of your life. Go play! Fourth, make the best of it. Since your already wet, swim in the water and make something terrible into something fun, so you are glad that you fell in the water. Make it worth the while.  Fifth, don’t be mad when someone laughs when something happened to you that you thought was sad at the moment. Laugh with them. In the end, I had the most fabulous time.
