Donner Memorial State Park

The elementary kids had minimum week all week and really with spring break this month too, it's like why do we even bother going to school?  Needless to say it was a busy week with kids at home and also the normal activities, plus our POOL got started.  To say we are excited would be an understatement!?!?!?  By Friday I was ready to get out of town, see some new scenery and unplug from life.  I've always wanted to stop at Donner Memorial State Park's museum right off of the freeway as well as explore the lake and with it being only an hour away, it was perfect.  We picked up Aubrey a few hours early from school and met Tyler and we were off!!
We stopped along the freeway at the lookout with the beautiful lake behind us.
It was a beautiful day with just a few clouds.
Going over the pass and at the visitor center there really should have been lots more snow, but with this drought all the kids could find was a few small piles in the parking lot.  They were quick to use them though for a snow ball fight!!

We watched the movie at the museum that was quite interesting and detailed, but really needs to be updated.  The museum itself was small and only had a few things, but worth a few minutes of time.  It sounds like the Visitor Center opening early June will be really nice.
This beautiful monument was dedicated in 1918.
We let the kids run on the trail, the sand, and along the rocky beach.
They found sticks and sang songs. Matthew even swept a large portion of the trail.
It really was one of those times that you want to put in a bottle when everyone is happy and life seems perfect...we all needed a day like this!!
The trail follows the lake and we had a great time hiking around the lake to China Cove.
The best times are watching these guys play together.
They happily run, jump, explore and skip rocks without being in any hurry!!
Not sure who is in charge of buying this girl's socks?
Sure do treasure these times together!!!
Had to post this one because REAL men do wear Chima backpacks!!  So love him!
