Our swim team hosted his first (now annual) just for fun, relay only invitational! What a blast!
The swimmers were divided into three teams and all my kids ended up together on the "white" team.
It was a day of pure fun! My mostly non-competitive (what can I say...they take after me)
swimmers had a great day!
Andrew wore a swim cap for the first time and was determined it's what made him go faster,
that thick red hair may have been slowing him down!
Although the older kids practice one day a week swimming in a t-shirt for resistance, never had they raced in one and then passed it on to their team-mate. That was fun to watch how they worked out the exchange.
There were relays with water polo balls. The first leg swimmer had one ball, second swimmer had two, and so-on. Aubrey had a quite the challenge swimming with three balls!
There were races where the swimmers had gloves and socks on!
Those wet socks were pretty hard to get on! Love this photo of true teamwork.
There were kick-board races.
No pressure, just fun. Swimmers were allowed to sit with their feet dangling over the edge,
a big no-no during normal, competitive meets.
The twins favorite was a relay race where the older, 13 year olds and up age group got to take
a younger swimmer on their back. What a fun way to race!
Katelyn quickly grabbed one of her favorite coaches and our family friend, Megan to take her across.

At the end of the meet the points were totaled, the suspense grew, and the coach announced that the "white" team had won the meet. They received these cool medals!
You can imagine how pleased my four swimmers were about that!!
So all the hard work and hours of practice finally paid off. Looks like fun was had by all. How clever were those relay races. Never thought about swimming with socks on and then trying to put them on wet. Congratulations on a successful swimming team. Love to all!

ReplyDeleteJoey started swimming with a cap a few weeks ago too, and he has taken 11 seconds off his IM time, so his huge hair must have created quite a bit of drag!
I'm so jealous of your Southern Cal trip—we need some beach time!
