Our week off

As part of our school district's furlough days for the year we had a week off.  We were not going out of town and so we just found fun things to do around home.  We had a few days of sunshine and visited the park and enjoyed some bike rides. 

 I would have died to have a park like this when I was a kid.  I think mine had six swings, a tall (metal = super hot in the summer = burn your bum) slide, and a really great (although, again metal) carousel.  

We traveled to tour the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield.

  We hadn't been for a few years and so the kids loved it.  Throughout the tour they keep giving you samples, including a marshmallow jelly belly center.  

It was a great little morning adventure.

There are several HUGE mosaics made completely out of Jelly Belly jelly beans, most of them using 12,000-15,000 beans each.  

Here is one I thought Grandpa Prescott would enjoy.

 On one of the rainy days the kids spent a few hours writing and performing a play.  

In this particular one, sitting on the thrones we have Queen Aubrey,
Royal Lady in Waiting Meg'n, Dwarf Man Matthew, Royal Lady in Waiting KatieLynn, and King Andrew.  

I sure do love these sounds than the arguing that can come from too many hours together inside!  They had a great time with this one.

We also hit our favorite, hole in the wall, local doughnut shop.  

These doughnuts are HUGE and the best!  

The cute Asian man gets up at 1 a.m. every day to have fresh doughnuts made by opening time at 4:30 a.m. I'm not sure how many people are needing their doughnuts that early in the morning, but if you go at 11:00 they are buy three get one free!  Since our nearby Kristy Creme closed, we have to drive about 15 minutes, but it's a fun treat!
