Christmas Eve

Our Christmas Eve started and ended perfectly!!  Kerry and Tyler spent the morning working on the new locker and Bonnie and I baked and did crafts with the kids.  It was just as Christmas Eve should be.  Well that is until Bonnie decided she would start some cookies for Santa and opened the pantry door.  Which for the previous 63,000 times was no problem.  However, the framed dry-erase board I have hanging flew off and hit her in the eye.  She yelled out, but then doubled over.  Now my mother-in-law is one tough cookie with a super high pain threshold and a no-complaining type demeanor, so when I asked her if she was OK and got no immediate response - I knew it couldn't be good.  She stood up and showed me her eye.  Yikes!  Her eye ball was bleeding.  It looked bad, in fact really bad.  We headed for the emergency room and I phoned my brother (the ER Dr. one) who of course suggested I take a photograph.  I couldn't do it.  It was too gross.  We got seen right away and luckily the cut missed her cornea and would heal OK with some three prescriptions we were on our way again.  The timing was perfect as we picked up our pizza (wonderful tradition I've enjoyed my entire life!) and were home in time for dinner.
After dinner we enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating the last piece in our nativity, the Christ Child.  Bonnie played the Primary song, "This is the Season" (Tyler's Grandma's tradition) while each child took their place in our acting out of the nativity.  The Angel seemed to be a coveted spot so we'll have to rotate that one in the future.  I think I may have permanently given up my spot for the last fifteen years as Mary, to Aubrey.  She seemed pleased as punch to be depicting her.  Grandpa Kerry read through Luke 2 and we listened with some new meaning from our week of learning about each participant of this sacred night.  We ended our night sharing our thoughts and testimonies of our Savior Jesus Christ.  It was a wonderful night.
Besides the (very graphic) photo Kerry took with my cell phone at the hospital to send to my brother, this is the only photograph I got.  Bonnie asked for a pirates patch for the boys, but this is all she got.  The white of her eye remained bright red the rest of her stay here and she looked like she'd been in a terrible fight...and lost.  Her eye socket was bright red, then purple, and finally black and blue a few days later.  I'm so glad her eye was OK and it ended well.  Let's hope for fewer ER trips together in 2011 Bonnie!!

  2. Such a sweet tradition acting out Luke 2. I never tire of that story and enjoy seeing the kids participate in it. For many years I have considered making costumes for celebrating the birth of Christ. Maybe this will be the year. It's too bad I had to take center stage on Christmas Eve. Believe me, it wasn't planned! Thanks for being patient and concerned with my little mishap. Still had a wonderful time celebrating with you. No more ER visits in 2011! Love to all!
